A Little About Postage Stamps
By Crystal Vasquez
With technological advances coming so far, the way people interact and communicate with each other has changed. Nowadays, everything is done online. For many people, it is an inconvenience to have to purchase envelopes and postage stamps and it can become quite costly. For those who are still interested in good ol’ fashion snail mail, there are still limitless options for you.
First off, it is important for consumers to know where stamps are sold. Many people think they have to find a local post office to buy postage stamps. While you still can buy postage stamps at the post office, there are plenty of other options for you. Usually every grocery store carries postage stamps in booklets. Booklets usually come with about 20 stamps. You can also purchase books of stamps at newspaper stands, some convenient stores, office supplies stores like OfficeMax or office depot, and UPS stores. Some of these places might have single stamps available, but most only carry books. If you would like individual stamps there are stamp vending machines at most post offices. Another option to purchase stamps is to do so online. You can either purchase them from the postal service website, or there are plenty of websites that allow you to customize your stamps with your favorite theme or picture.
Once you purchase the necessary stamp, make sure you place it in the right place on your envelope. Older stamps require the back to be moistened in order to stick, sort of like envelope flaps. The newer stamps, however, are stickers and can be hard to adjust once you apply them to the package. Postage stamps should go on the upper right hand corner of your envelope. Regardless of the size of your envelope, where stamp goes on envelope will always be the same.
