Svae the Post Office -- Buy Stamps
Marshal Rosenthal
The Post Office of the United States is a privately-run company that hasn't kept up with the times. Or to be more precise, the times have run over the post office. We say that because it's a fact that email is used by people over letters and especially postcards. As a result, the lines at post offices have dwindled, with the exception of those times when packages must be sent or a special delivery letter (or package) is necessary.
As a result of all this, talk is going on now about closing many of the post offices that are open -- relegating those that are small or serving local communities to the wayside in favor of those larger. For some it is no inconvenience at all, but for local communities it will mean when a post office is needed, a trip outside the area will be required.
Other consequences will be later delivery of mail (since the post people will be traveling from a farther location to the area where the delivery is to be made) and slower deliveries in general due to longer sorting times since more mail will be at a post office than otherwise would have been the case.
But one thing that can bring the crowds back into the post offices is stamps the need to buy stamps for use with mailing. Since there will always be times when a letter needs to be sent -- even with paying bills online having increased - to go and buy stamps from the post office is a necessary thing. As is the opportunity to see what stamps are being offered. Unlike stamps that are made available in grocery stores, shops and the like, a post office will let you buy stamps in a variety of styles and types. Who knows? This might even lead to increasing the number of stamp collectors by introducing a new generation to the hobby.
